The Fellowships

The criteria for selection are simple. We seek the very best and brightest in journalism today, mid-career professionals with solid track records, great future promise and, above all, demonstrated leadership in some aspect of journalism. In return, we offer an academic year’s sabbatical, the chance to step away from the daily grind, indulge passions, challenge minds and expand the imagination.

We take tremendous care in assembling each class of Fellows to provide both a harmonic balance and great diversity, taking into consideration the type and size of news organization as well as personality, geography, background and expertise.

A typical Knight-Wallace Fellowship class comprises 12 national journalists and six international colleagues.

Ours is a Fellowship in every sense of the word, not merely a group of equally accomplished, like-minded colleagues. Of the many feathers in our cap, the friendships that emerge and continue to develop long after the fellowship ends may be the brightest.
